Just some food for thought. Your Avon business will not grow on its own; nor will it grow overnight. It will take time and you must nurture it. Your Avon business is like a plant. You need to Cultivate Your Avon Business.
I started my Avon business in September 2014. During 2014 I only had a total of 12 customers. Of the 12, 6 were friends. Also, of the 12, 4 have never ordered again. THAT is a slow start. Here’s the thing. I didn’t give up.  I didn’t say this is not for me. DON’T GIVE UP! Keep at it. You have to nurture it, water it, feed it.
1. Plant the seed. In the beginning, customers won’t come to you; they have no idea you exist. You have to get out there and grab them! You have to put yourself out there. Let everyone know you sell Avon. Start with your family, friends and co-workers. Then your neighbors. Then your block. Each place you visit. If you leave the house, take Avon brochures with you.  Give one to every person you come in contact with. Create a Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ and Twitter page specifically for your Avon business. Start a blog as well. Little by little you let the world around you know YOU are the Avon Lady.
2. Water Your Plant. As you get your name and Avon brochures out there, you need to follow up. Every campaign you have to water your new business.  Call customers and potential customers and speak to them.  Pay attention to what they order or are interested in. Keep notes on each of them in your back office (in your address book). When something they are interested in comes up on special, let them know.  They will appreciate it.

Make sure they are getting new Avon brochures each campaign. You can deliver yourself or use a company like Campaign Mailer ( who will mail brochures to your customers for a fee.  This is what I do and my customers love it.  Be sure you are posting regularly on social media. Sign up on your Avon eStore as a customer so that you will receive the same emails as your customers.  Be sure to turn the automated email programs. (web office/eStore/personalization tool/customer preferences) Use the new “Avon Social Media Center” App from Avon.

3. Feed Your Plant. Once you are getting established and your Avon business is starting to grow it is time to feed it. Start purchasing more brochures to leave at businesses. Look into Avon Fundraising.  Make a list of organizations that may benefit from an Avon  fundraiser and contact them.  Begin to build your stock of popular products like Skin So Soft Original Bath Oil, Bug Guard, Eye Liners, Mascaras, hand creams, lip balms and shower gels. Pay attention to the “Avon What’s New” brochures when these items are offered to you at 40% off and unlimited. Follow the “Avon Deal of the Day” on YourAvon and purchase these items at discounts. The “Avon Deal of the Day” is posted every evening at 12 Midnight EST. Start looking for vendor events you can attend. Do a search on Facebook for vendor sites in your area. Even with little product on hand you can still pass out brochures, get contact info from potential customers, recruit and even take orders on the spot at vendor events. You can also set up in your front yard and have a little Avon yardsale.  I do this several times a year and get new customers ordering from me on a regular basis.
4. Propagate Your Plant. One of the most amazing things about plants is that every cell has the ability to duplicate all parts and functions of the plant. By taking a cutting of a leaf or stem and creating the right conditions, you can create an entirely new plant. Propagate your Avon business.  There are two ways to do this;
     A. Reinvest Your Earnings. We all want to make money but sometimes in the beginning of starting a new business it is necessary to take those earnings and reinvest them back into your business. Purchase decals for your vehicle. Buy Avon shirts, buttons and table runners. Any way you can advertise your Avon business is a plus. Be a walking advertisement by wearing/using the Avon products yourself.
     B. Join Avon Leadership. Replicate yourself. Start your own Avon team; teach and mentor your downline to be successful. As your team grows, so will your income. Always be sure to include a recruiting flyer with your brochures and customer’s orders. Be sure when attending vendor events that you are recruiting as well. Make a sign that is visible to anyone walking by. Stress that it is $25 to join and that new reps can earn 40% during their 1st through 7th Campaigns.
Growing your Avon business takes hard work and dedication but in the end it is worth it. It’s like getting a raise every campaign! Have you ever worked for a job that gave you a raise every two weeks?  I have….my AVON business!

Shirl Papaian has been an Avon Representative since September 2014. She sells at the Honor Society Level (over $20,000 annually) and is a Bronze Leader with over 160 team members nationwide.

My Avon Story

I am born and raised in Southern California. I grew up in Anaheim, CA, spent 13 years in the mountains of Idyllwild and then eventually moved to the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley where I now reside. I began working at the age 0f 15 but I have actually only had a handful of jobs in my lifetime; Fast food manager, extruder operator, restaurant owner, fire fighter and now district manager for a private fire prevention company and media/ marketing for an off road racing company.  I also own a home based computer service/repair company and an off road media/marketing company. I hold an AS degree in Fire Science from Mt San Jacinto College where I graduated with honors of distinction.

I decided to become an Avon Representative in 2014.  My daughter had signed up and my sister-in-law as well. My sister-in-law joined for the discount on her own purchases and my daughter gave it up after a while; she found she didn’t have the time she wanted to devote to it while raising two toddlers.

I had always thought about becoming an Avon Rep, but it was always just a thought. I remember my mom buying Avon when I was very young and was always mesmerized at all the products and how the Avon lady always looked so beautiful and polished. Of course I loved the lipstick bullets!

My daughter’s upline and mutual friend, Leslie Reid, was always sharing Avon deals and the opportunity on Facebook. One day she posted about joining her team and becoming an Avon Rep; I just decided right then and there to do it. I had no plan or specific reason. As I started selling, I realized that I was actually having fun and felt accomplished at how well I was doing. I decided I wanted to get serious and actually be successful!

For the remainder of that first year I concentrated on learning as much as I could about the business; learning most everything on my own. Then in 2015 I devoted every extra dollar and minute I had to my Avon Business. I grew my customer base slowly but surely and over time my customer base and sales consistently increased. I even started my leadership journey at the encouragement of Emily Seagren who was Leslie’s upline.

I studied and learned everything I could from Emily and through her’s and Leslie’s mentorship I am where I am today. In January of 2017 the opportunity to purchase Leslie’s Avon team was presented to me. Not one to pass up a great offer I took it! Emily Seagren is now my upline, my team has almost doubled and I am now a Gold Ambassador; Team Shine is thriving!

My goals for 2017 are to ear the title of “Gold Leader” and make “Honor Society” again in 2017. My long term goal is to retire and Avon continue to be my major source of income. I hope to accomplish this in the next 5 years.
