Being a great Avon Mentor means you get to partner with new Representatives who will look to you for support, inspiration and motivation as they launch their business.  A Mentor can be a Sales Leader, District Sales Manager, or a Representative, anyone who recruits a New Representative.

If a new Representative recruits a friend, it is appropriate for that new Representative’s Mentor to step in and demonstrate how to mentor. A District Sales Manager can also be a resource to support the training Mentoring can go from a partner to partner experience to an entire team support system. This go-to guide is designed to take you through some of the tips and techniques of successful mentoring.

BEING AN AVON MENTOR
1 – Connect and Engage. To help you with this kickoff communication, Avon has created an entire plan that includes the emails we send to new Representatives, and additional information she should hear from you. You can access the following helpful support on the New Rep Center:

  • Complete communication from the Avon home office to new Representatives
  • Suggestions for what you can say as a mentor – and how to say it: – Readymade templates for both SMS and email – Suggested timing of all communications

We encourage you to give her a call as soon as she’s enrolled (within 24 hours) and schedule a Get Together to review her Getting Started Guide and Avon Starter Kit. Here are some things to cover:

  • Talk about her WHY
  • Create her Contact List
  • Review her KickStart Program
  • Set goals
  • Teach her how to use her Starter Kit
  • Reinforce how to sell and network

New Representatives can find helpful tools to boost their skills on each of these topics. During your first connection, get online and help her navigate these training tools.

2 – Coaching to Grow Their Business.  Why is coaching so important? – It’s all about building relationships through a one-on-one connection – It helps keep goals clear and team members accountable for making them happen. – You’re there to guide, redirect and cheerlead, as needed. Pay attention to questions and concerns.

  • How often do I coach? Schedule a Mentor coaching call weekly (first 4 weeks, then as often as needed). Calls could be as short as 15 minutes and should be fun and all about strengthening your relationship. Before your call:
    Check her sales and recruiting numbers – See campaign and KickStart results on YourAvon.com >Downline Manager for Sales Leaders and Sales Management Online>District Manager Online for District Sales Managers Set up calls on the same day and time of the week.
  • Take notes on every call so that you can refer back to them.
  • Ask for permission before you give feedback. Always start with a compliment/something positive.
  •  Coaching on your call: The outline below will help make your calls easy and effective.
  • Review results from last week’s goal, recognize accomplishments (big or small) and something she learned from the experience.
  • Talk about goals for the coming week – Does she have all the resources she needs, or does she need some specific training or guidance?
  • What sales/training activities will she be doing to help her meet her goal? – The Onboarding program is set up for just in time training that provides bite-size pieces so it feels    achievable. No need to overwhelm her with all the info all at once – Her goal is to achieve the KickStart program. Your goal is to help her understand the need to secure   more customers, get referrals, increase customers she serves each campaign and provide great   service to all her customers – Take a look at the Income Producing Activities training piece at YourAvon.com for some suggested activities.
  • What do coaches do? – Ask open-ended questions – Listen A LOT. Follow the 80/20 rule (80% listening, 20% talking) – Support, encourage and inspire to achieve goals, and create new ones.
  • Confirm day and time for next call and share your excitement about next week’s update

3 – Teach Others to do What You do.  People who are great at mentoring others have certain skills in common. Here are some:

  • Communicating, Training, and Influencing Your Team.
  • Get together in person or on Skype/video chat with your new Representative.
  •  Set up a Team Page on Facebook and post: – Positive thoughts – Congratulatory call outs to Representatives with high sales and recruiting – Recognition and shout outs for milestone victories – Links to training Hold a group training with your team member and her new Representative – Use this Mentor Guide and the recorded Train the Trainer webcast available on YourAvon.com.
  • Send a personalized text or email to motivate and congratulate.
  •  Brainstorm with your own Mentor to share ideas, tools and new ways you can influence and recognize your team – Use your reports to understand, analyze and help plan the success of your  team’s business. By looking at real   numbers, you can quickly track real accomplishments and monitor activity to better support team members.

In 2016, Shirl was awarded on stage at the Annual PC Gala Luncheon for the highest online sales in her district, for earning President’s Club Level and other various incentives.

In 2016, Shirl has advanced from Ambassador to Silver Ambassador and to Gold Ambassador through her consistent efforts to grow and mentor her team of Avon Representatives.

Shirl is on track to earn Honor Society Level status by the end of the year with sales of over $20,000.

Together, Shirl and her team’s sales are more than $45,000. Her Team’s sales growth is at 342%. She is #1 in her District for Sales Team Growth and #4 in sales. She is #6 in sales growth in her division.

So far in 2016 Shirl has earned almost $2,000 in Avon bonuses in the “Journey to Gold Incentive” and has earned herself a Champion Blender by being #59 out of 400 Avon Ambassadors in the “Ignite Your Avon Torch” incentive. She also won all three awards in the “One Team, One Dream” incentive.

My Avon Story

I decided to become and Avon Representative in 2014.  My daughter had signed up and my sister-in-law had as well. My sister-in-law joined for the discount on her own purchases and my daughter gave it up after a while, she found she didn’t have the time she wanted to devote to it with two toddlers.

I had always thought about becoming an Avon Rep, but it was always just a thought. I remember my mom buying Avon when I was very young and was always mesmerized at all the products and how the Avon lady always looked so beautiful and polished.

My daughter was on our friend Leslie Reid’s team in Texarkana, TX.  We were friends on Facebook and I was always ordering from her; she had some great deals! One day she posted about joining her team and becoming an Avon Rep; I just decided right then and there to do it.

For the remainder of that first year I concentrated on learning as much as I could about the business; learning most everything on my own. Then in 2015 I devoted every extra dollar and minute I had to my Avon Business. I grew my customer base slowly but surely and over time my customer base and sales consistently increased. I even started my leadership journey at the encouragement of Emily Seagren who was Leslie’s upline.

I studied and learned everything I could from Emily and through hers and Leslie’s mentorship I am where I am today. My goal is to have 100 active representatives on my national team and to earn “Leader”  and “Honor Society” statuses by the end of 2016.

I seem to have a lot of success with my approach to my Alma leads so I thought I would share my “technique” with you, How to Convert Alma Leads. You need to take the Alma course at Avon University, do this now, do not wait! This is a long but good read!

Important Tips;

  • First and foremost, I contact my leads as soon as possible, within minutes if I can but definitely within 12 hours. If it happens to be late at night I will at least get an email sent off to them.
  • Second, I purchase premium leads. I know, they cost $15 a piece. Let me tell you they are worth it. My 7 Day Lead to Contract Conversion Rate is 44.44%. My 3 Campaign Lead to Appointment Conversion Rate is 66.67%.
  • Third, use 3-4 means of communication. The 4 types are; Phone, Text, Email and Regular Mail. I do not use regular mail but it is an option. There are recruiting postcards you can purchase from Vista Print, Town & Country or you can make your own.
  • Fourth, In all of my emails I include the following attachments; Basic Starter Appointment Kit Flyer, Daily Care Collection Flyer, New Rep 40% Incentive Flyers and FAQ Flyers. This will include the “Welcome” email.

What I do;

Many reps print their leads and keep track of them this way. I strictly use Alma, it works for me. Find what works for you but remember, you must keep Alma updated or your leads may be revoked if they expire because you did not update them.

  • When I receive a lead, I first call them.  The majority of leads do not answer the phone since they don’t recognize the number.  This is ok, leave a message.  My messages are brief and always the same on the first call. “Hi (Mary), this is Shirl.  I am a National Sales Leader with Avon and I understand you are interested in joining Avon. My number is XXX-XXX-XXXX. You can call or text me anytime if you have any questions.  I am going to send you a follow up text with the link to join and an email with additional information. I look forward to hearing from you, have a great day/evening”.

  • I then immediately send a follow up text. It will read; “Hi (Mary)!! This is Shirl from Avon. Let’s get you signed up today! I can’t wait to see where this amazing opportunity takes you. Whatever your “why” is; a little extra money in your pocket, personal discount on items you use every day or a full time business, Avon is the right choice for you! It only costs $15 and includes everything you need including a free website. Follow this link to sign up and watch Avon enrich your life. http://spapaian.avonrepresentative.com/opportunity/start.  Use code SPAPAIAN.  Check your email for additional info.”

Once these three tasks are completed, I document in my Alma.  I schedule the next follow up in 3-5 days. When it is time to follow up I repeat all three forms of communication but in a 3 day period.

  • Day 1 I call. I will leave a message stating, “Hi (Mary), this is Shirl with Avon.  I just wanted to follow up with you. My number is XXX-XXX-XXXX. You can call or text me anytime.  I look forward to hearing from you, have a great day/evening.”
  • Day 2 I text. My text reads, “Hi (Mary), Shirl from Avon. I just wanted to follow up and see if you were ready to start your Avon business? It’s just $15 to start right now but will be increasing to $25 shortly. If you are ready, the link is http://spapaian.avonrepresentative.com/opportunity/start. If prompted for a reference code be sure to use SPAPAIAN.”
  • Day 3 I email. My email titled “Avon Opportunity Awaits you!” will read;

“Hi (Mary)!

My name is Shirl and I am a National Sales Leader with Avon. I hadn’t heard from you so I wanted to follow up and see if you were ready to get started?

Again, each time I attempt a contact I document my Alma. At this point if I don’t hear back I will schedule a follow up two weeks out and repeat all three forms of communication. If nothing again I will push it out a month and so on.

Now, if you DO hear back, just have a conversation with the lead. Ask if they have any questions. Be sure to document it in Alma as well.

Once a Lead signs up and becomes a New Recruit

Once I have converted the lead I will follow up with a “Welcome” email.

This email will read as follows;

“Hi (Mary)! So excited to have you on my team!

Welcome to Avon! You picked a great time to become involved with an Avon business of your own!

In this economy, Avon sells better than usual because we have such low prices and good values. It is also easier to build a team of your own, if you choose that option; because lots of people need to earn extra money right now. Great decision!

You will be receiving your package in the mail directly from Avon: that is your starter kit. It will have the Avon brochures, order pad and instruction materials that you need to get started.

While you are waiting for it to arrive, you may want to take the time to go to www.youravon.com and register (if you haven’t already) so that you will have access to all of the free online training.

Just click on AVON UNIVERSITY. Avon even has marked which classes are best to start with for new Avon Representatives. The online training classes are fun, interactive and not boring! Gotta love that!

There are a few groups on Facebook I would like to add you to. If you are on Facebook, please let me know.

It is a good idea to ask for payment with order from your customers.  Because you are a new Avon Representative, Avon will ask for a deposit or full payment when placing your order. To make sure you are prepared should they ask, collecting payments at time of order is a good way to do business.

We place one order once every two weeks according to you mail plan schedule, so there is NO need to order immediately.  You will find this information at  www.youravon.com by clicking on PROFILE and then on SEE CALENDAR.  Take the time now to tell as many people as possible about your new business and start collecting orders.  I can help you navigate the site when placing your first order, but it will also be helpful if you have completed the initial online training courses before then, too.  There are incentives for placing a first order of $100 so be sure and read through your kit when it arrives.
